The Group S Championship

Competition is at the heart of Group S racing. That's why we do it. The Group S Championship offers the fun and challenge of competing for points over the year with the reward of a trophy or other prize.

GROUP S CHAMPIONSHIP RULES 2009

GSRA POINTSCORE OBJECTIVES:

The objectives of the GSRA annual pointscore are:

  • to promote Group S fraternity on both a state and national basis;

  • to provide cohesion and focus to the annual program of Group S race activities;

  • to provide a mechanism through which to recognise excellent, safe and consistent driving within and across Group S categories;

  • to add to the competitive element;

  • to promote the GSRA;

  • to reward supportive promoters with large Group S grids; and

  • to provide leverage over race promoters with GSRA pointscore endorsement.

In drafting the annual pointscore program, the GSRA needs to be cognisant of the realistic budget limitations that most GSRA members operate within.

The annual pointscore GSRA program consists of the Catalina, Goldfields’ and Capricorn Cups which are for competition by GSRA members.

 GSRA non members will score points at each race meeting but only the results of GSRA members will be recorded in the GSRA pointscore table.

 CATEGORY and CAPACITY CLASS WINNERS:

 Sa, Sb and Sc Category winners.

 Capacity class winners within the Sa, Sb and Sc Categories as follows:

Saa up to 1300cc         Sab 1301cc to 2000cc Sac over 2001cc

Sba up to 1300cc         Sbb 1301cc to 1600cc Sbc 1601cc to 2000cc Sbd over 2001cc

Sca up to 2000cc         Scb 2001cc to 2600cc Scc over 2601cc

DESIGNATED 2009 POINTSCORE ROUNDS:

The GSRA Committee designates selected race meetings as pointscore rounds with progressive grids being used whenever possible.

Because of the large number of race meetings in 2009 featuring Group S, some 2009 race meetings have not been endorsed as GSRA pointscore meetings.

SCORING of RACES within a POINTSCORE ROUND:

At a pointscore round the GSRA Committee will request three scratch races for all three Group S categories (Sa, Sb and Sc), with a competitor’s best two races to count.

Where a GSRA pointscore round includes only two scratch races for all three Group S categories (Sa, Sb and Sc), a competitor’s results from both races will be scored.

At a pointscore round where the three Group S categories have a different number of scratch races, a competitor’s best two results will count towards their pointscore for that meeting, provided each Group S category receives at least two races.

SCORING of POINTS at a RACE:

 Points will be awarded for each position in class as follows, based on the number of competitors in each class that start in each race.
